Former India pacer and Delhi Capitals assistant coach Ajit Agarkar believes that no team is an outright favourite, either in the T20 format or the Indian Premier League. Anyone can become a champion. He has cited the example of Rajasthan Royals winning the trophy in the first season of IPL, which was considered to be the worst team that season.
Agarkar said during the IPL gameplan show on Star Sports, "There is no strong or weak team in T20 cricket, I wish it was true and you could have picked one or two teams but it is not so. We have enough evidence during all the seasons of IPL that it is not easy to beat any team.
He further said, "If you look at Rajasthan Royals in the first season of IPL, everyone was laughing at the team selected in the auction, but they won the trophy." On 23 February, IPL franchise Delhi Capitals announced the appointment of Ajit Agarkar as the team's new assistant coach.
Agarkar said in the team statement, “I am extremely thrilled to be a part of Delhi Capitals for this season. I am very fortunate that after Khiladi, I am now returning to a different role. It is quite thrilling. We have a young and wonderful team led by one of the brightest players in the world, Rishabh Pant.
He said, "And coach Ricky Ponting is a great player of the game. Looking forward to working with him.” Ajit Agarkar has represented Kolkata Knight Riders and Delhi Daredevils in the IPL.
