In Karnataka, Bangalore Police has sent a summons to BJP President JP Nadda and the party's IT cell chief Amit Malviya. The action has been taken in connection with a social media post allegedly threatening members of the SC, ST communities for not voting for a particular candidate. Officials said on Wednesday that Nadda and Malviya have been asked to appear before the investigating officer at High Grounds police station at 11 am within seven days of receiving the summons.
The step has been taken after the Karnataka Pradesh Congress Committee (KPCC) filed an FIR against Nadda, Malviya, and BJP Karnataka unit president BY Vijayendra alleging violation of the model code of conduct in the Election Commission and police. A senior police officer said that a case has been registered against BJP leaders under sections of the Representation of the People Act.
In the complaint, Congress cited a video posted from the official account of Karnataka Pradesh BJP. He alleged that this account is operated by Amit Malviya, head of the party's IT cell, on the instructions of BJP national president JP Nadda and state president BY Vijayendra. Congress alleged that the video showed animated characters of Rahul Gandhi and Chief Minister Siddaramaiah. The video clip shows SC, ST, and OBC (Other Backward Class) communities as 'eggs' placed in a nest and also shows Rahul Gandhi placing a bigger egg in the name of the Muslim community. It has been portrayed as if money is being given to chicks representing the Muslim community, who then throw out the SC, ST, and OBC communities.
