Russia-Ukraine Tension: PM Modi talks to many European leaders including EU Chief, expresses gratitude to Poland

PM Modi spoke to many European leaders regarding the Ukraine crisis. This information has been given by the PMO. He also expressed his anguish over the deteriorating situation and humanitarian crisis in the war-torn country. Also reiterated India's appeal to end the war.

 

Modi held talks with French President Emmanuel Macron, Polish President Andrzej Duda, and European Council President Charles Michel after Russian forces stepped up attacks on Ukraine. According to the PMO, during the discussion with Macron, Modi emphasized that India believes that respect for international law, the United Nations Charter, and the territorial unity and integrity of all countries strengthens the contemporary world order.

 

The Prime Minister welcomed the talks between Russia and Ukraine and stressed ensuring free and unhindered humanitarian access as well as facilitating the movement of people. During the conversation, Prime Minister Modi also apprised President Macron of India's efforts to evacuate its citizens from the war-affected area and send necessary relief materials along with medicines for the affected people there.

 

According to the PMO, Prime Minister Modi also spoke to Polish President Andrzej Duda and thanked him for helping to evacuate Indian nationals from Ukraine. During the discussion with Duda, the Prime Minister also thanked him for easing the visa requirement for entering Poland from Ukraine. According to the PMO, the Prime Minister especially appreciated the citizens of Poland for providing all possible help to Indian citizens in this difficult time.

 

Modi told Duda that Union Minister VK Singh would supervise the operation in Poland till the Indian nationals were evacuated from Ukraine. The PMO said the Prime Minister reiterated India's appeal to end the war and return to talks. He also stressed respect for the territorial unity and integrity of the countries.

 

In a conversation with European Council President Charles Michel, Modi stressed ending the war and returning to talks. The PMO said that the Prime Minister emphasized that the contemporary world order includes international law, the UN Charter, and the provision to strengthen the territorial unity and integrity of all countries. They welcomed the dialogue between Russia and Ukraine and stressed the need to ensure free and unhindered humanitarian access as well as facilitate the movement of people.
