The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) issued a guideline on November 28th, requiring all mobile companies to pre-install the "Sanchar Saathi" app on their smartphones. Companies have been given 90 days to implement this rule. The opposition has now intensified its attack on this issue. The government claims that this app will help prevent fraudulent activities related to the mobile's IMEI, phone theft, and fraudulent calls. Meanwhile, the opposition is calling it a means of surveillance. Mobile companies have also expressed strong opposition to the app. Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra and Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi have also expressed strong opposition to the app.

Congress MP Priyanka Gandhi Vadra has strongly reacted to the Department of Telecommunications (DoT) directive, calling it a "spying app" and asserting that this move is a direct attack on citizens' privacy. Priyanka Gandhi stated that every citizen's right to privacy is paramount. The government has no right to monitor messages people send to their family or friends. According to her, such a compulsion undermines public trust.

Accusing the government of moving towards authoritarianism

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, targeting the central government, said that authoritarianism is growing everywhere in the country. Parliament is unable to function smoothly because the government is avoiding discussion on important issues. She said that a culture of open debate is crucial in a democracy, and the government is shying away from it.

There is a difference between fraud reporting and surveillance: Priyanka Gandhi Vadra.

She also warned that there is little difference between preventing phone fraud and monitoring citizens' phone activities. Priyanka Gandhi said, "Cybersecurity is important, but that does not mean the government should make excuses to look into every citizen's phone. I don't think any citizen would be happy with this."

Priyanka Chaturvedi also opposed: This is another form of surveillance

Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi also strongly opposed this move by the government. Calling it an intrusion into citizens' personal lives, she said that through pre-installed apps, the government can monitor every activity of phone use. This violates the right to privacy.

Priyanka Chaturvedi said, "This is another method of surveillance in the name of pre-installed apps. Through this, our every phone activity can be tracked. We will strongly oppose this and demand that the government immediately withdraw it." She clearly stated that her party will oppose this decision at every level, as it is against the freedom and privacy of citizens.
