The Taliban government of Afghanistan has demanded the US return $ 3.5 billion. This demand has arisen after the decision of the Federal Court of New York on Wednesday. The court ruled that the victims of the 9/11 attack cannot use this money.

In fact, in August 2021, the Taliban captured Afghanistan. After this America had taken control of Afghan property. During this, American President Joe Biden said that he would use it to help the families of the 9/11 victims. The Taliban was sued by some of the 9/11 victims' families, which they won. These families wanted to repay the loan taken at the time of the case with this money.

Court said – the Taliban government will have to give recognition

However, Judge George Daniels of the Federal Court of New York said in his decision that the court did not have the authority to confiscate the Afghanistan Central Bank money. Daniels said in his 30-page opinion – the Taliban should pay the compensation themselves, taking responsibility for the most dangerous attack in the history of America, but America cannot seize the money of the Afghan Central Bank. If he did so, it would simply mean that America is giving recognition to the Taliban government.

Taliban-America cannot use money

This decision makes it clear that both the Taliban and the US cannot use the assets of Afghanistan to repay the debt. Let us inform you that till now no country including America has recognized the Taliban as the government of Afghanistan.

The US should immediately return the money to Afghanistan

The Taliban in Afghanistan has welcomed the decision. Taliban government spokesman Bilal Karimi said – This is the property of the Taliban. America has no right to confiscate it. This money should be returned to the people of Afghanistan immediately without any conditions.

Taliban captured Afghanistan in 2021

On 15 August 2021, the Taliban completely captured Afghanistan and declared Islam Law there. After this, the US had sealed $ 7 billion of the Central Bank, due to which the economy of Afghanistan dependent on foreign aid had completely collapsed. In February 2022, President Biden announced that the seized money would be divided into two parts. A part of this will be given as aid to Afghanistan and a part will be used to help the victims of the 9/11 attacks.
