Tamil Nadu Budget 2023-24 live updates: The Tamil Nadu government presented the budget for 2023-24 in the assembly on Monday and said that the revenue deficit has come down from around Rs 62,000 crore to Rs 30,000 crore due to reform initiatives.

 

Presenting the budget, Finance Minister Palanivel Thiaga Rajan said that due to the unprecedented and difficult reforms undertaken, we have reduced the annual revenue deficit by about Rs 62,000 crore. He said this is despite several 'massive welfare schemes' being implemented during the last two years.

 

Fare-free travel for women on buses

Fare-free travel for women in government-run buses, and a breakfast scheme for government school students are among the many schemes being implemented in the state budget. As Finance Minister Rajan began his speech, the main opposition AIADMK tried to raise several issues, leading to a brief ruckus.

 

Free Breakfast Scheme for Primary Students

He said the attendance in schools has increased between 10-30 percent due to the free breakfast scheme for primary students. He further said that in the coming financial year, the government would construct classrooms, laboratories, and toilets for Rs 1500 crore.
