Tamil Nadu stampede case: Supreme Court to hear today, Madras High Court order challenged

Posted on 10th Oct 2025 by rohit kumar

The Supreme Court will hear a petition filed by Tamil actor Vijay's political party, Tamilaga Vetri Kazhagam (TVK), on Friday. The petition challenges the Madras High Court's order directing the formation of an SIT to investigate the Karur stampede, which killed 41 people.

On Tuesday, the Supreme Court agreed to hear the petition on October 10. A bench comprising Justices J.K. Maheshwari and N.V. Anjaria will hear the matter.

BJP leader's petition also heard

On Tuesday, a bench headed by the Chief Justice also agreed to hear BJP leader Uma Anandan's petition challenging the High Court's order refusing a CBI probe into the September 27 stampede.

TVK demands an independent investigation

TVK has demanded an independent investigation under the supervision of the Supreme Court, arguing that an impartial investigation would not be possible if Tamil Nadu police officers alone conduct the investigation. The petition has objected to the High Court forming an SIT comprising only Tamil Nadu Police officers.
