South Africa got off to a disappointing start in their chase of 252. Kranti Goud, with her sharp bowling, dismissed Tazmin Brits (0) early with a brilliant return catch. Marizanne Kapp, Sune Luus, Anneke Bosch, and Sinalo Jafta then departed in quick succession, reducing the score to 81/5.
