Indian Women's Team's Winning Run Comes to a Halt

With this defeat, the Indian women's team's winning streak came to a halt. The Harmanpreet Kaur-led team had defeated Sri Lanka by 59 runs and Pakistan by 88 runs. With this win, South Africa is in fourth place with four points and a net run rate of -0.888. Meanwhile, the Indian women's team remains in third place in the table with two wins and one loss from three matches. They also have four points and a net run rate of +0.959. Australia and England hold the top two spots, respectively.

South Africa's Innings

South Africa got off to a disappointing start in their chase of 252. Kranti Goud, with her sharp bowling, dismissed Tazmin Brits (0) early with a brilliant return catch. Marizanne Kapp, Sune Luus, Anneke Bosch, and Sinalo Jafta then departed in quick succession, reducing the score to 81/5. However, captain Laura Wolvaardt (70) held firm and, with Chloe Tryon (49), added 51 runs for the sixth wicket to steady the innings. When Wolvaardt was bowled by Gaud with a brilliant yorker, South Africa were 142/6, still 110 runs away from victory.

In this difficult time, Tryon and Nadine de Klerk played aggressively. De Klerk relieved the pressure with two brilliant sixes, and a 69-run partnership for the seventh wicket brought the team to the brink of victory. In the end, de Klerk took charge and played a stormy innings of 84 runs (54 balls, unbeaten) to take the team to 252/7 in 48.5 overs. For India, Kranti Gaud (2 wickets) and Sneh Rana (2 wickets) were the most successful bowlers, while Amanjot Kaur, Shri Charani, and Deepti Sharma took one wicket each.

India's Innings

Young wicketkeeper-batsman Richa Ghosh was the backbone of the Indian innings, scoring a brilliant 94 (77 balls, 11 fours, 4 sixes) in difficult conditions. India started well. Pratika Rawal (37) and Smriti Mandhana (23) added 55 runs for the first wicket in 10.2 overs. However, the Indian top order faltered after that. With the dismissal of Harleen Deol (13), the team lost five wickets for just 19 runs in the next few overs, reducing the score to 102/6.

In this difficult time, Richa Ghosh took charge. First, she added 51 runs for the seventh wicket with Amanjot Kaur (20) and then shared a blistering 88-run partnership with Sneh Rana (33) to take India to a competitive total. Richa accelerated the innings during Rana and Ghosh's partnership, scoring 44 runs in the last 24 balls. However, she was dismissed in the final over, six runs shy of a century. For South Africa, Chloe Tryon took three wickets, while Marizanne Kapp, Nadine de Klerk, and Nonkululeko Mlaba each took two wickets. Tumi Sekhukhune took one wicket.
