On Tuesday, terrorists in Pahalgam, Jammu, and Kashmir, killed at least 26 people by firing indiscriminately at tourists. The terrorists, dressed in army uniform, first asked the tourists about their religion, checked their identity cards, and then shot them saying they were Hindus. Most of the 26 dead are tourists, while two are foreigners and two are local citizens. About 20 people have been injured in the attack. However, the government has confirmed only 16 deaths so far. At the same time, security agencies have detained some suspects late last night. Jammu is closed today in protest against the attack. Today, a meeting of the Cabinet Committee on Security is going to be held in Delhi. It will be chaired by PM Modi.
The Resistance Front (TRF), a group associated with the Pakistani terrorist organization Lashkar-e-Taiba, has taken responsibility for this cowardly attack before the Shri Amarnath Yatra starting on July 3. This is the biggest terrorist attack in Jammu and Kashmir since the Pulwama attack in February 2019. 47 CRPF jawans were killed in that attack.
After the attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who was returning from his Saudi Arabia trip, strongly condemned the incident and spoke to Home Minister Amit Shah over the phone and instructed him to take necessary steps and reach Kashmir. Shah immediately held a meeting with senior officers at his residence and then reached Srinagar.
Eyewitnesses said that the terrorists entered the grassland in the Baisaran Valley at around 3 pm and started firing indiscriminately at the tourists who were roaming around the food shops and riding ponies.
The daughter said that when the father could not recite Kalma, he was shot in the head.
Asawari Jagdale (26) of Pune, who was injured in the attack, said that the terrorists took her father Santosh Jagdale (54) out of the tent and asked him to recite Kalma. When her father could not do so, they fired three bullets in his head and back.
His uncle was also riddled with bullets.
Among the dead is Karnal's Naval officer Lieutenant Vinay Narwal (26). Vinay, posted in Kochi, got married six days ago. He was on a honeymoon vacation.
Kanpur's Shubham Dwivedi was also killed by terrorists. He got married two and a half months ago.
Hyderabad-based IB officer Manish Ranjan was also killed in the attack. Manish, a resident of Bihar, had gone for a walk with his wife and children.
The victim said - religious identity was determined by removing people's clothes.
Some videos of the incident site have surfaced. In these, four people are seen lying on the ground, including a child, while a person sitting on a chair is soaked in blood. In the video, two women are seen pleading for help from the people. A local person is consoling them.
A woman who narrowly escaped the attack said that the terrorists asked her husband's name and when it was found out that he was not a Muslim, they shot him in the head. The terrorists made some people take off their clothes and identified their religious identity. Another woman said, that as soon as the bullets were fired, people started running to save themselves, but there was no place to hide. CCS meeting today After the attack, Prime Minister Narendra Modi is returning to the country, leaving his Saudi Arabia visit midway.
PM did not even attend the dinner of the Saudi government and decided to return to the country.
