Pope Francis, the greatest religious leader of Christians, appealed to the world on Wednesday. Pope said- this time spends less on Christmas and helps the people of Ukraine with the money that is left. The people there are facing the ravages of hunger and winter due to the war.
Russia invaded Ukraine on 24 February. Since then the war did not stop for a single day. The Pope is appealing to people to help Ukraine at almost every public event.
The threat of starvation in Ukraine
During a program in Vatican City, Pope Francis said – Ukraine is going through very difficult times. These problems are at risk of increasing in the coming months. Celebrate Christmas this year too, but reduce your expenditure. I have only one request from you. Spend the money that is left after celebrating Christmas with simplicity, on the welfare of Ukraine and helping the people there. They are in dire need of our help at this time.
Francis further said – The people of Ukraine are in great trouble because of the war. There is a danger of starvation before them. Apart from this, severe winter has started there. They don't even have doctors and nurses as per the requirement. There the problem of electricity, water and energy is increasing. The temperature has reached below zero degrees Celsius.
A day before Francis' appeal, an appeal was issued by Rome's Santa Sophia Church. In this, the people of Italy were asked to donate clothes and medicines to help the people of Ukraine.
Modi will not go to Moscow
The effect of the Ukraine war is visible at the annual summit of India-Russia. Prime Minister Narendra Modi will not go to Russia this year. An official privy to the matter said that PM Modi will skip the meeting with Vladimir Putin after the Russian President threatened to use nuclear weapons in the war in Ukraine. This officer said- India-Russia relations are strong, but it would not be right for Modi to go to Moscow at the moment. Russian government spokesman Dmitry Peskov said the possibility of the Putin-Modi summit – will not happen this year.
Taiwanese people are present in Ukraine
The youth of Taiwan are also supporting Ukraine in the war being fought against Russia. Many boys from Taiwan are fighting the war together with the soldiers of Ukraine.
According to the BBC report, since the beginning of the war, thousands of foreigners have reached there to support Ukraine. Of these, 10 are also from Taiwan. One of them, Sheng Guang, was killed in a Russian attack last month. In a statement released after Sheng's death, Taiwan's Foreign Ministry said – he has given his life for the independence of Ukraine.
use winter as a weapon
Recently there was a meeting of Foreign Ministers of NATO in Bucharest city of Romania. After this meeting, Russia was accused of using cold as a dangerous weapon in the Ukraine war.
The Secretary General of NATO warned that if Russia does not stop, the situation in Ukraine will get worse. However, this is not the first time that weather has had such an effect on the war. From Napoleon to Hitler, they defeated many of their enemies, but they had to succumb to the cold. Last week 70% of Kyiv's area was without electricity and water.
The US intelligence agency believes that the Ukraine war will slow down in the coming cold months. At the same time, according to Ukraine, Russia can accelerate its air strikes. Natalia Gumanyuk, a spokeswoman for Ukraine's Southern Defense Forces, said Russia was preparing a major missile attack on Ukraine like last week.
What will be the effect of changing weather in the Russia-Ukraine war?
According to America's think tank Institute for the Study of War ie ISW, due to bad weather, the war has slowed down for some time. But, Ukraine's military will continue to drive out Russia.
According to ISW, the temperature in Ukraine will go down further in the coming days. Due to this the snow that is falling now will start freezing. Once the ice begins to freeze, it becomes fit for the movement. After this, the war will again gain momentum. Then which side's army will be benefited, it is difficult to guess from now. However, ISW has also pointed out that the Russian army will also suffer a lot from the cold.
According to The Guardian - Russian soldiers are forced to live in extremely thin tents in the bitter cold. In such a situation, there is a possibility of death of many people due to cold and diseases. If the war stops for some time, in the meanwhile Russia will get a chance to mobilize its 3 lakh soldiers.
