The deadliest variant of corona found: New strain found in the research of National Institute of Virology, Pune, its name B.1.1.28.2; Covaxin effective on this

Scary news has come amidst the situation under the control of Corona in India. Pune's National Institute of Virology (NIV) has detected a new variant in genome sequencing of coronaviruses. According to the report of Times of India, this variant has been found in people who came to India from Britain and Brazil. The institute has named it B.1.1.28.2. It is as serious as the Delta variant found in India. People infected with this can show severe symptoms of the corona. However, it is a matter of relief that the indigenous corona vaccine Covaxin is effective on this.

Vaccines need screening

After studying the variant, it was found that it can make people seriously ill. The need for screening has been told to see if the vaccine is effective against this variant. This NIV study has been published online in bioRxiv.

At the same time, in another study of the same institute, it was told that the indigenous corona vaccine covaxin is also effective against this variant and the antibodies produced by two doses of the vaccine can neutralize this variant.

Can cause weight loss and lung damage

Health experts say that when infected with the B.1.1.28.2 variant, the person starts losing weight. Due to the rapid spread of its infection, the patient's lungs get damaged. This variant can cause lesions and severe damage to the lungs. The study emphasizes the need for genome surveillance of Covid. So that new variants of Corona can be detected as soon as possible.

So far 30 thousand samples have been sequenced in 10 labs.

Genome Sequencing Labs are detecting mutants that are behind the sudden jump in corona infection. Currently, 10 national labs under the Indian SARS-CoV-2 Genome Sequencing Consortia (INSACOG) have sequenced about 30,000 samples. The central government is also working to increase resources for genome sequencing. Because of this, 18 more labs have been added to the consortium recently.

The second wave became dangerous only because of the delta strain

The delta or B.1.617 variant, also known as the double mutant strain, has been found extensively in Maharashtra and Delhi. Because of this, the second wave of the epidemic that came here has badly affected. The B.1.617 variant was found in more than half of the genome sequencing samples in several cities in Maharashtra, the country's worst-affected state.

Gangrene-like symptoms have started appearing in patients

Symptoms such as hearing loss, severe abdominal disease, blood clots turning into gangrene were not commonly seen in Covid patients. Now doctors in India are seeing these diseases by associating them with the delta variant. Preliminary research in England and Scotland suggests that there is a higher risk of hospitalization due to this dominant strain.

According to a report published in NDTV, Dr. Abdul Ghafoor, Physician of Infectious Diseases at Apollo Hospital, Chennai, says that we need more scientific research to find out whether B.1.617.2 is related to the new symptoms. . He says that this time more diarrhea patients are being seen than the initial wave of the epidemic.
