According to sources, the swearing-in is likely to take place on Sunday. Some alliance members said that after Modi is elected leader of the NDA MPs, senior members of the alliance like TDP's N Chandrababu Naidu, JDU's Nitish Kumar, and Shiv Sena's Eknath Shinde will meet with the Prime Minister to meet President Draupadi Murmu and hand over the list of MPs supporting him.
The NDA has 293 MPs, well above the majority mark of 272 in the 543-member Lok Sabha. Senior BJP leaders, including Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, and JP Nadda, are also in consultations with allies to work out an amicable formula for their representation in the new government, which will depend on them for survival.
The BJP leadership has moved swiftly to end any possibility of uncertainty over government formation since the June 4 results, which were a setback for the ruling party as it lost majority for the first time since 2014 and needs the support of allies to retain its hold on power.
