Chinmay Krishna Das was detained by the Detective Branch (DB) of Dhaka Metropolitan Police at Hazrat Shahjalal International Airport at 4:30 pm on Monday. On Tuesday, he was produced before the sixth Metropolitan Magistrate of Chittagong Kazi Shariful Islam amid tight security. However, his bail plea was rejected and he was sent to jail.

The Bangladesh government on Wednesday described ISKCON as a radical religious organization in the High Court. Bangladesh media reported that during the hearing of a writ petition, the court asked Attorney General Mohammad Asaduzzaman, representing the government, about ISKCON. On this, he said, it is a religious radical organization. The government is investigating it.

 

According to the Bangladesh newspaper 'Daily Star', the High Court bench of Justice Farah Mahbub and Justice Debashish Roy Choudhary, while hearing the petition of Supreme Court lawyer Moniruzzaman, had asked the government what steps it was taking regarding ISKCON's rallies and its recent activities, including Tuesday's incident in Chittagong.

 

The court has ordered the Attorney General to give information about the government's steps on Thursday. The petition demanded a ban on ISKCON in Bangladesh.

 

According to media reports, he has been accused of treason. After the arrest of Chinmay Krishna Das, large-scale protests started in Bangladesh. To stop this demonstration, tear gas shells were fired on a large scale, and a lathi charge was also done, in which more than 50 people were injured. The seriously injured have been admitted to the hospital.

A march was also taken out at Dhaka University to protest against the murder of lawyer Saifullah Islam. Anti-ISKCON slogans were raised in it. Hindu groups accused the interim government led by Yunus and said that the government is targeting Bengali Hindus.

 

ISKCON has condemned the arrest of ISKCON saint Chinmay Krishna Das and urged the international community to intervene. ISKCON has said that the United Nations should take steps to protect minorities in Bangladesh.
