The government has already started an initiative to find alternative employment opportunities for firemen returning after four years of service in the army. Under this, the Ministry of Defense has held talks with half a dozen defense production companies in the country related to the private sector to give special opportunities to firemen in their jobs. During this initiative of the Ministry of Defence, these companies gave positive signals regarding providing alternative employment to the firemen returning from the army. Because of this, the Ministry of Defense has urged the indigenous defense companies to formulate a policy to make provision for special quota for ex-Agniveers in their jobs.
Defense Secretary holds meeting with officials of several major indigenous defense companies
The Ministry of Defense organized this interaction session on Wednesday under the aegis of the Society of Indian Defense Manufacturers to allow ex-fire veterans into the Corporate Recruitment Scheme of Defense Companies. During this meeting chaired by Defense Secretary Giridhar Armane, officials of several major indigenous defense companies including L&T, Adani Defense Limited, Tata Advanced Systems Limited, and Ashok Leyland participated. During this, the Defense Secretary exhorted the companies to take advantage of the expertise of the Agniveers who have passed out from the three Services to employ highly dedicated and disciplined youth in various fields involved in nation-building. Also highlighted the efforts of the government in this direction.

The companies were also told that the skills acquired by Agniveers during their association with the Armed Forces would help them create a highly competent and professional workforce. His experience will not only be useful, especially for companies in the defense industry but will also be readily available. According to the Defense Ministry, during the discussions, senior representatives of defense companies committed their continued support to the initiative. Along with this, he also expressed his eagerness to give jobs to the first batch of Agniveers i.e. Ex-Agniveers, who came out after completing their tenure in the three services, in their institutions and assured the Defense Secretary that based on available skill potential, the reservation of ex-Agniveers would be done. Suitable provisions will be made in their recruitment policies for the same.
During the discussion, some suggestions were also given to increase the skill potential of Agniveers as per the requirements of the defense industry. After this positive attitude of the companies, the Defense Secretary also urged the Indian defense manufacturers to make a policy announcement as soon as possible regarding the special quota of Agniveers under their corporate recruitment plans in line with this commitment. It may be known that under the new scheme of Agneepath, the process of new recruitment has now started in the form of Agniveer in all the three forces and the recruitment process of its first batch is going to be completed soon.
