Discussions surrounding Ramayana—Bollywood’s most expensive film to date—have been ongoing for the past three years. With the release of its teaser, the film has already generated significant buzz among audiences.

Produced by Namit Malhotra, Ramayana is being made as a two-part series. The two installments are scheduled to be released a year apart; the filmmakers have invested a massive sum in its production, and now, the focus has shifted to how these costs will be recouped. The film reportedly received a multi-crore OTT deal, but the producer turned it down.

Namit Malhotra Rejects ₹700 Crore OTT Deal

As you may be aware, the budget for Ramayana—produced by Namit Malhotra—stands at approximately ₹4,000 crore. According to Bollywood Hungama, even before the film’s release, it received an offer of around ₹700 crore from an OTT platform. However, Namit has declined this ₹700 crore OTT deal.

A Robust Strategy to Recover ₹4,000 Crore!

Indeed, reports suggest that Namit Malhotra is aiming to secure an OTT deal worth ₹1,000 crore, rather than the offered ₹700 crore. It is said that he hopes to finalize a ₹1,000 crore OTT deal to partially recover the production budget, while planning to recoup the remaining ₹3,000 crore through other revenue streams, including a global theatrical release.

Is Ramayana Following the Path of Dhurandhar 2?

If reports are to be believed, the producers of Ramayana are planning to adopt a strategy similar to that of Dhurandhar 2. It is reported that Namit Malhotra has retained the film’s rights and intends to strike a deal with a suitable partner only when the right valuation is met. There is also a possibility that he may currently sell the rights for Part 1 alone, while holding onto the rights for Part 2 until Part 1 has been released. This is the same strategy that the team behind ‘Dhurandhar: The Revenge’ adopted.
