Former Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin made headlines with a bold statement after the Indian women's cricket team won its first ODI World Cup title. He praised Harmanpreet Kaur and her team for a heartwarming gesture, which he believes Indian men's cricket has never done before.

Why did R Ashwin say the Indian men's cricket team didn't do this?

Indeed, former Indian spinner R Ashwin praised the Indian women's cricket team, saying that while celebrating their victory, the Harmanpreet Brigade honored three legendary players of Indian women's cricket: Mithali Raj, Jhulan Goswami, and Anjum Chopra. All three were on the commentary panel at the DY Patil Stadium at the time. The team invited them on stage to lift the trophy, join in the celebration, and share tears of joy.

Ashwin said on his YouTube channel that in 2016-17, after Harmanpreet Kaur's memorable innings against Australia, the loss against England was followed by the heartbreaking loss. Both Jhulan and Mithali were in that World Cup. This time, the Indian team won the trophy and handed it to Mithali Raj. Why did they do this? I salute the women's team for this. The Indian men's team has never done anything like this.

Ashwin said this because the men's team always talks about respecting former players. Meanwhile, the women's team proved it to be true.

Ashwin further said,

We often say things in front of the media just to be popular, but I rarely see the previous generation given real credit. Most people say that our generation's team was better, not yours. I have seen such discussions many times. - R Ashwin
