Trade War: 'Nothing surprising', Foreign Minister jaishankar's reaction on Trump's tariff threat

US President Donald Trump (Trump Tariff Plan) has announced that he will impose reciprocal tariffs on many countries including India. External Affairs Minister S Jaishankar has reacted to this decision of the US President. While attending an event in London, the Foreign Minister said that the changes taking place in America's foreign policy are entirely expected.

 

He said that we had expected the steps that the US President has been taking for the last few weeks. He said this during a conversation with Bronwen Maddox, Director and Chief Executive of Chatham House Institute, London.

 

What America is doing is expected: Foreign Minister.

The Foreign Minister further said, "If you look at it, you know that political leaders try to do the things that they promise to come to power. They do make some of their promises. However, they are not always successful. They are not able to do everything that they want to do, but a general principle is clear and you know that when a political force or leader has an agenda, especially if it has been prepared over a long period and they are completely clear and passionate about it, then it is not surprising that it works on it.'

 

S Jaishankar further said, "I think what we have seen and heard (on US policies) in the last few weeks was expected, so I am a little surprised that people are surprised by this, while nothing is surprising in it."

Foreign Minister S Jaishankar also reacted to this matter.
