Turkey stuck on NATO's plan against Russia, condition for entry was placed before Sweden

Finland and Sweden formally applied to join the NATO alliance on 18 May. Turkey is furious with the move of Finland and Sweden. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said that Sweden should not expect Turkey to join NATO without turning back the terrorists. He has also said that the Swedish and Finnish delegations should not dare to come to Turkey. Earlier, Erdogan had said that he cannot allow Sweden and Finland to join NATO due to Ankara's stand on Kurdish militants. He said that both these countries lack a clear stand against terrorism and Sweden is like a nest for terrorist organizations.

But why is Turkey opposed to Finland and Sweden?

Erdogan has said that Turkey will not allow countries "imposing sanctions" on Turkey to join NATO. A Bloomberg report suggests that Turkey's move is evidence of Erdogan's deep resentment against NATO allies. Turkey has been concerned about NATO countries not taking Ankara's concerns about Kurdish militants seriously. Turkey wants NATO countries to accept the threat to Turkey and the alliance should be reconciled.

Will the entry of Finland and Sweden be stopped only by stopping Turkey?

Explain that Turkey itself is an important member of NATO and any country can join NATO only if all existing members agree. In such a situation, Finland and Sweden cannot become NATO countries without Turkey's support. Erdogan also alleged that we cannot say 'yes' to those who have also refused to extradite wanted terrorists to Turkey.

Sweden and Finland can join NATO in a year?

A Reuters report suggests that it could take up to a year for NATO countries to approve the request from Sweden and Finland. Regarding Turkey's opposition to Sweden and Finland's entry into NATO, NATO Secretary-General Jens Stoltenberg has said that these issues can be resolved.
