Udaan: India's goal to send satellites in space at a low cost, now it costs Rs 12 lakh per kg

The Indian Space Research Organization (ISRO) aims to design and manufacture re-usable rockets. Its advantage will be in sending equipment and satellites in space at a very low cost.

 

At the seventh Space Expo 2022 held in Bangalore on Monday, ISRO Chairman and Department of Space Secretary S Somnath said that if a reusable rocket is made, India will be able to send equipment to space at the cost of five thousand to one thousand dollars per kg in the next few years. Right now it costs 10-15 thousand dollars per kg. That is, instead of spending 12 lakh rupees per kg, equipment can be sent for 80 thousand rupees per kg. It will be 15 times less. We don't have reusable rocket technology right now. At the launch of the expo, Somnath said that this should be the next target after the country's most powerful rocket GSLV Mk-3.

Speaking at the expo, Somnath said ISRO can benefit from technical partnerships with its commercial arm New Space India Limited, private sector, start-ups etc. in the design of re-usable rockets. To consider the entire sector in the design, engineering, production, commercial use and operation of this new rocket on a global scale.

Last week, Somnath had said that India is currently working on several technologies for the space sector. Among these, the inflatable aerodynamics decelerator (IAD) is important. Along with this, it is necessary to acquire retro-propulsion technology, which will allow the rocket to be brought back to earth after satellite launch.

 

Six agreements between companies in India and Australia

 

Private companies and start-ups working on space-related technologies in India and Australia signed six agreements at the Space Expo. These were expected to promote new areas of cooperation between the two countries. The head of Australia's space agency ASA, Enrico Palermo, said that his country is looking to increase cooperation on India's side. Starting our Consulate General in Bangalore from 2023 will help in this. He described India's space program and the ambitious Gaganyaan mission as inspirational. At the same time, S Somanath said that as Australia and Indian start-ups are going to work together, it is expected that in the coming times Australia will cooperate in launching our satellites from its land. We will also be able to give him such support.
