The Delhi Traffic Police on Friday fixed a new speed limit to check the speed of uncontrollable vehicles plying on Delhi roads. The maximum speed limit has been fixed for two-wheelers to cars, autos, and trucks. According to Delhi Police, the revised new speed limit will be applicable on an immediate basis.
In a new list with the revised speed limit issued by the Delhi Traffic Police, it has been told which vehicle can run at the maximum speed on which roads in the capital.
As per the new list, Delhi Police has fixed a maximum speed limit of 50-70 km/h on most roads, highways, and flyovers for M1 category vehicles i.e. cars, jeeps, taxis, and other app-based cabs. The speed limit for such vehicles has been set at 30 km/h on all minor roads in residential areas, commercial markets, and inside service roads.
At the same time, for two-wheelers, i.e. motorcycles, scooters, etc., Delhi Police has set a maximum speed limit of 50-60 km/h on most roads, highways, and flyovers. The speed limit for these types of vehicles has been fixed at 30 km/h on all minor roads in residential areas, commercial markets, and inside service roads.
The speed limit for M2 category vehicles and Light Motor Vehicles (LMVs) i.e. motorcars, delivery vans, etc. have been fixed at 50-60 km/h on most of the roads. The speed limit for all transport vehicles including Gramin Sewa, TSR, Phatfat Sewa, and Quadricycle remains at 40 km/h.
Delhi Police informed that if any driver violates the prescribed speed limit but stays within 5% of the prescribed rules, he will be waived. However, if a vehicle exceeds 5% of the prescribed maximum speed limit, the Delhi Police will take cognizance of an offense under section 183 of the Motor Vehicles Act, 1988.
