The Modi government at the Center can take a major decision on the Uniform Civil Code (UCC). The Modi government may introduce the UCC bill in the upcoming session of Parliament. It is being told that the government can present the UCC bill in the monsoon session.
Parliamentary committee meeting on 3rd July
A meeting of the Parliamentary Standing Committee has been called on July 3 regarding the UCC. The Parliamentary Standing Committee on Personnel, Public Grievances, Law, and Justice said the views of all stakeholders would be heard in the meeting. The committee, headed by BJP's Rajya Sabha MP Sushil Modi, has informed all 31 MPs and members of the committee that suggestions from stakeholders on the Uniform Civil Code will be sought and considered in this meeting. The meeting to be held on Monday will start at 3 pm.
Along with this, on June 14, the Law Commission of India also sought the opinion and views of the general public and recognized religious organizations on the issue of the Uniform Civil Code.
What is Uniform Civil Code?
Uniform Civil Code would mean one law for all the religions living in the country. Under this, the same law is to be implemented for people of all religions and communities living in the country. In this, a uniform law has to be made for all regarding the acquisition and operation of property, marriage, divorce, adoption, etc.
