The Law Commission has sought views from common people and religious political organizations regarding the Uniform Civil Code. Meanwhile, politics has heated up across the country after Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statement regarding the Uniform Civil Code. The opposition is constantly attacking PM Modi and his government. In this episode, Congress's UPA ally DMK raised the question and said that the Uniform Civil Code should apply to Hindus first.
Protection of all religions in the Constitution
The DMK said that people of all castes should be allowed to offer prayers in temples. Also said that every person in the country including Scheduled Castes and Scheduled Tribes should be allowed to worship in any temple of the country. DMK's TKS Elangovan said that we do not want UCC (Uniform Civil Code) because the constitution has given protection to every religion.
PM Modi is distracting
Congress general secretary KC Venugopal said in a statement that PM Modi should first answer about poverty, price rise, and unemployment in the country. He never speaks on the Manipur issue. The whole state is burning. He is just diverting people's attention from all these issues.
Owaisi advised PM Modi
Taking a dig at PM Modi's statement, AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said that the Prime Minister of India considers India's diversity and pluralism a problem. So, he says things like... Will you take away the pluralism and diversity of the country in the name of UCC?... When he talks about UCC, he is talking about Hindu Civil Code... I Challenge them whether they can abolish the Hindu Undivided Family?... Go and tell the Sikhs in Punjab about the UCC, see the reaction there..."
What did PM Modi say about UCC?
Addressing a rally in Bhopal on Tuesday, PM Modi said that the opposition party is provoking people on UCC. How can there be two laws in the same house?
