The United States has imposed sanctions on three senior officials associated with North Korea's weapons programs after North Korea's latest and biggest Intercontinental Ballistic Missile test. This missile was tested by Pyongyang last month. The US Treasury Department named the sanctioned individuals as Jan Il Ho, Yoo Jin, and Kim Su Gil. All of these officials were also designated for sanctions by the European Union in April.

Played a major role in the development of weapons

It is known that the new sanctions on the three officials have been imposed by North Korea after the ICBM test on 18 November. The missile was launched this year as a record-breaking spot of more than 60 missiles. The US Treasury Department said in its statement that Jan Il Ho is the deputy director of North Korea's Munitions Industry Department, while Yu Jin serves as its director. And both have played a major role in North Korea's development of weapons of mass destruction.

Action is being taken against those who played role in missile programs

Another Kim Su-gil served as director of the Korean People's Army General Political Bureau from 2018 to 2021, overseeing the implementation of decisions related to the WMD program, the statement said. Treasury Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence Brian Nelson said in a statement, "Treasury is taking action in close trilateral coordination with Korea and Japan against the officials who have had the greatest role in the DPRK's illegal WMD and ballistic missile programs."
