Uttarakhand and Delhi summoned on hate speech in Parliament, Supreme Court seeks reply in four weeks

The Supreme Court has sought a response from the Uttarakhand, Delhi government in four weeks on the petition alleging contempt in the hate speech case in the Parliament of Religions. Details have been sought from both state governments about the action taken against those giving hate speeches so far. Justice D.Y. Chandrachud and Justice Hima Kohli gave the verdict while hearing the petition of petitioner Tushar Gandhi on Monday.

The Supreme Court said, 'Not issuing notice in contempt.' Keeping in view the fact that the Advocate General of India R. Venkataramani had taken charge of his office a few days back. Advocate Shadan Farasat said that he would give a copy of the contempt petition to the counsel assisting the AG. Freedom was also granted to serve the petition on the respective State Governments.

Advocate Farasat, appearing for the petitioner, submitted that the police of the respective states have not taken any action as per the judgment of the Supreme Court in Tehseen S Poonawalla Vs. Government of India, guidelines relating to punitive and remedial measures in respect of mob lynching. have been determined. He insisted that the speeches were hateful. Advocate Farasat argued that the concerned state police had not followed the guidelines issued in the Tehseen Poonawalla judgment.
