Supreme Court: Petition to declare cow as national animal dismissed, Supreme Court reprimanded the petitioner

The Supreme Court on Monday refused to hear a plea seeking a direction to the Center to declare cow as the national animal. Justice SK Kaul and Justice Abhay S Oka asked the petitioner which fundamental right was being affected by this.

The counsel appearing for the petitioner said in the court that cow protection is very important. The bench cautioned the lawyer that it would impose a fine, after which he withdrew the petition and the matter was dismissed. The apex court was hearing a PIL by non-governmental organization Govansh Sewa Sadan and others seeking a direction to the Center to declare cow as the national animal.
