Violence over Tipu-Aurangzeb in Kolhapur: Four companies of SRPF, 300 constables-60 officers deployed, situation under control now

Things are slowly becoming normal in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. Most of the shops were seen open in the city on Thursday. At the same time, people were seen buying items of daily need. A senior police officer said that the situation has improved since Wednesday afternoon. Police are stationed everywhere in the city. At the same time, at least 36 people have been arrested so far in connection with the violence.

 

Violence broke out on June 6

 

Significantly, on June 6 in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, some youths posted on social media in support of Aurangzeb. The other day, some locals posted an allegedly objectionable audio message along with Tipu Sultan's picture as a social media status. After this, political and social organizations from the surrounding areas came down to protest on Wednesday. During this demonstration, someone pelted stones at the crowd. This worsened the situation and violence spread in the area.

 

Section 144 applied

 

Let me tell you, the police action is going on after the violence in Kolhapur, Maharashtra, where the police have arrested a total of 36 people and 2 of them are minors. The administration has banned the internet in the area and has also imposed section 144 to prevent any rumors about the recent incident. Besides this, Kolhapur Police has registered five cases regarding the objectionable post. In two of these cases, five people, including a juvenile, have been detained.

Kolhapur Superintendent of Police Mahendra Pandit said the situation had improved on Wednesday afternoon. Police have been deployed at every nook and cranny to rekindle the crackdown and violence. Due to this, 4 SRPF, 300 police constables, and 60 officers are deployed.

 

Instructions for the formation of an independent committee

 

Giving further information, he said that District Guardian Minister Deepak Kesarkar held a peace committee meeting in the evening. He said members of various organizations and communities took a pledge to maintain peace in the city. At the same time, according to a release, it has been directed to form separate peace committees comprising members of all communities to celebrate all festivals in Kolhapur in a peaceful manner. Along with this, instructions have also been given to constitute an independent committee to prevent any communal discord in the city.
