The All India Muslim Personal Law Board on Sunday announced a nationwide agitation against the proposed Waqf Amendment Bill. A statement issued by AIMPLB office secretary Mohammad Waqaruddin Latifi said, 'After the massive and successful protest in Delhi on March 17, the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has announced a nationwide agitation against the proposed Waqf Amendment Bill.
AIMPLB expressed gratitude to all organizations
AIMPLB spokesperson and convener of the Action Committee against the Waqf Bill SQR Ilyas expressed gratitude on behalf of the board to all Muslim organizations, civil society groups, and leaders of Dalit, tribal, OBC, and other minority communities. He said, 'Without the grace of Allah and the united support of these groups, the success of the Delhi demonstration would not have been possible.' He also thanked the opposition parties and MPs who not only participated in large numbers but also strongly rejected the proposed law.
AIMPLB resolves to oppose the bill
The AIMPLB statement said that the 31-member action committee of the AIMPLB has resolved to adopt all constitutional, legal, and democratic means to oppose the controversial, discriminatory, and harmful bill. As part of the first phase of the movement, massive protests have been planned in front of the state assemblies in Patna on March 26 and in Vijayawada on March 29.
Which organizations will participate in the nationwide movement?
It said that the senior leadership of the AIMPLB as well as representatives of national and state-level religious and social organizations will participate in these demonstrations. 'Civil society leaders, prominent personalities from other minority communities, and prominent people from Dalit, tribal, and OBC sections have also confirmed their participation.' The statement said that 'despite the issuance of whips by various political parties to MPs to participate in the ongoing Parliament session, opposition members of the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) have also been invited to participate in the dharna demonstration.'
According to the statement, "In Patna, leaders of JD(U), RJD, Congress and Lok Janshakti Party, including the Bihar chief minister, have been invited. Similarly, in Andhra Pradesh, invitations have been sent to the ruling Telugu Desam Party (TDP), YSR Congress, Congress and Left parties." Ilyas said these protests are aimed at sending a clear message to the BJP's alliance partners: "Either withdraw support for the bill or risk losing our support." The campaign will include sit-in demonstrations, human chains, and social media campaigns, especially hashtag campaigns on X (formerly Twitter). "Public conferences, seminars, symposia, and dharnas will be organized at the district level and memorandums will be submitted to the President of India through the district magistrate," the statement said.
