At the same time, given the forecast of rain, all educational institutions including schools, colleges, and tuition centers in Thrissur, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts will remain closed today i.e. on August 2. The holiday was announced when the Meteorological Department of Kerala issued an 'orange' alert of rain in Wayanad district till Saturday.

Normal life is affected due to heavy rains and waterlogging in Thrissur and schools have been ordered closed.

 

Many schools in Kerala are functioning as relief camps.

 

According to the latest information from the Meteorological Department, heavy rains are expected to continue in Kerala till August 5.

 

Three days after the landslide in Wayanad, rescue teams still carry out operations to rescue people trapped in collapsed buildings.

 

Yesterday, Leader of Opposition in Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi and Congress leader Priyanka Gandhi Vadra visited the landslide-affected area in Choorlamala, Wayanad. Addressing the media, Rahul Gandhi said that this is a tragedy for Wayanad and a lot must be done here.

 

The death toll is expected to rise further, as many people are still missing. At the same time, Kerala Health Minister Veena George said that the death toll has now been increased to 308.

 

According to the Wayanad district administration, the dead included 27 children and 76 women and were mostly from the worst-hit areas of Mundakkai and Choorlamalla.
