The Pakistan Cricket Board has claimed that it has made huge profits from hosting the Champions Trophy. The board said that it would get 10 million US dollars (280 crore Pakistani rupees) from this tournament, in which the Indian team became the champion.
According to PCB spokesperson Aamir Mir and Chief Economic Officer Javed Murtaza, all the expenses of the tournament were borne by the ICC. Quoting Mir, PTI said, 'All the expenses of the tournament were borne by the ICC. Apart from this, we hope to get Rs 3 billion from the ICC after the audit.'
PCB joins the top three
The PCB had initially set a target of earning Rs 2 billion from the Champions Trophy, but they were successful in exceeding it. Officials claimed that the total revenue of the PCB crossed 10 billion in the financial year 2023-24, which is 40 percent more than last year. Due to this, the PCB was able to make it to the top three richest cricket boards in the world.
Mir said, 'With this financial strength, PCB has made it to the top three richest cricket boards in the world. The board also paid taxes of Rs 4 crore.' Murtaza said that PCB chief Mohsin Naqvi played a major role in changing the financial target, which improved the financial performance of the board.
PCB will improve the condition of the stadium
Murtaza said, 'The remaining funds will be used to improve the condition of other stadiums including Karachi, Faisalabad and Rawalpindi. PCB had many other financial investments and the budget for upgrading the stadium was Rs 18 billion. Rs 12 billion was allocated for the first phase, out of which Rs 10.5 billion has been spent.
The CFO said that PCB completed major improvement works in just four months and ensured that the venues meet international standards. Regarding the pay cuts of domestic men and women players, Mir said that chairman Naqvi has withdrawn the decision to cut their salaries.
Regarding PCB's absence from the final stages of the ICC Champions Trophy, officials said they are still waiting for a full clarification from the ICC.
