Weather: Flood threat in Delhi-Haryana, havoc on mountains, thousands of tourists stranded in Kullu, Chardham Yatra disrupted again

After heavy rains, the danger of flood has now arisen in the plain states including Delhi, UP, and Punjab-Haryana. From the desert state of Rajasthan to the hilly states, all the major rivers including Ganga, Yamuna, and Beas are in spate.

 

Water has entered cities, towns, villages, and farms. Thousands of hectares of crops have been destroyed. There is the havoc of rain on the mountains. 17,000 tourists are stranded in Himachal's Kullu tourist places - Manali, Manikarna, and Banjar. The Char Dham Yatra has also been disrupted.

 

Meanwhile, 16 more people have died in 24 hours. Of these, 8 deaths occurred in Uttarakhand and four in UP. There have been 31 deaths in Himachal in three days. More than 1,500 roads including the Jammu-Srinagar Highway, Manali-Leh, and Manali-Chandigarh National Highway have been closed due to landslides.

 

With the release of 3.59 lakh cusecs of water from Hathinikund Barrage, the Yamuna water in Delhi will further increase. Due to floods in Yamuna and Ghaggar, dams have been broken in Nawada and Tamshabad in Panipat, Haryana. Water has entered hundreds of villages in Kurukshetra, Hisar, Karnal, Bhiwani, and Yamunanagar. Many roads including Hisar to Ambala National Highway have been closed.

 

Heavy rain alert in Himachal and Uttarakhand, bridge washed away on China border

1,318 roads are closed in Himachal. 273 roads are closed in Uttarakhand. Landslides occurred at seven places on the Gangotri Highway in Uttarkashi. India Meteorological Department has issued an alert for heavy rains and floods in Himachal, Uttarakhand

 

The bridge built at Jumma on the Joshimath-Malari highway near the China border has been washed away. The movement of army and villagers stopped

 

Major highways including Ambala-Ludhiana are closed in Punjab and Haryana. Gurukul's hostel in Ambala was flooded with three feet of water. 730 girls were evacuated

 

67 villages submerged in Assam's Lakhimpur, crops destroyed

Delhi: Yamuna at 10-year high level

 

Yamuna water reached 206.76 meters in the national capital at 8 pm on Tuesday, which is a 10-year high. Earlier in 2013 the water level reached 207.32 meters.

 

People from low-lying areas have been shifted to safer places. Rail and vehicle operations have been stopped from the old iron bridge near Red Fort.
