Prime Minister Narendra Modi today paid tribute to the great hero of the freedom struggle and former Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu K. Kamaraj on his birth anniversary.

Sharing an emotional message on his official X handle, PM Modi recalled Kamaraj's contribution to the freedom movement and his dedication to society.

He wrote, "I pay tribute to K. Kamaraj on his birth anniversary. Kamaraj, a leading warrior of the freedom struggle, provided invaluable leadership in the early years after independence. His high ideals and dedication to social justice are a source of inspiration for all of us."

Kamaraj was called the 'kingmaker'. He left his indelible mark on the politics of not only Tamil Nadu but the entire country. His simplicity, honesty, and loyalty to the people are still an example for leaders.

Who was K. Kamaraj?

K. Kamaraj's full name is Kumaraswami Kamaraj. He was born on 15 July 1903 in Virudhunagar. He was a member of the Lok Sabha from 1952 to 1954 and from 1969 to 1975. Apart from this, he was also a member of the Madras Legislative Assembly from 1954 to 1967.

Kamaraj became the Chief Minister of Madras State in 1954. He remained in this post till 1963. Later, in the interest of the party, he resigned from the post of CM and started strengthening the organization.

Kamaraj also got a chance to become the Prime Minister twice, but he refused to become the Prime Minister. He wanted to strengthen the party. He was the President of Congress from 1964 to 1967.
