Rainfall in Delhi-NCR since Friday morning has suddenly changed the weather. Strong winds accompanied by thunderstorms are lashing Noida and the surrounding areas, causing a drop in temperature. The rain has also led to a decrease in the Air Quality Index (AQI) level. This weather pattern is expected to continue for the next few days.
Rain in NCR
People in Noida are facing difficulties due to the rain that started this morning. The rain, which began with loud thunder, has also brought a chill to the air. The rain was heavy in the morning but has now become lighter, although the skies remain overcast. Cold winds are also adding to the discomfort. The maximum temperature recorded in Noida this morning was 16 degrees Celsius, and the minimum was 7 degrees Celsius.
Waterlogging on Noida roads
Light rain has been falling in Noida since morning. Heavy rain started around 11 AM, leading to waterlogging on the roads. Commuters faced traffic jams. Waterlogging created traffic congestion. Water accumulated on the roadsides in Sector 73.
Impact of Western Disturbance and Temperature Drop
January is usually known for its biting cold, but this time the daytime temperatures were significantly above normal. The main reason for this change in weather on Friday is a strong Western Disturbance active over North India.
The Meteorological Department had already issued a warning of thunderstorms and showers. These rains are accompanied by strong winds blowing at a speed of 40-50 kilometers per hour. After the rain, the daytime temperature is expected to drop to 19-21 degrees Celsius, while the minimum temperature will also come down to around 6-8 degrees Celsius. This will bring back the cold, and the chill will increase during the mornings and nights.
In the last two days, the temperature was recorded to be about 7 degrees Celsius above normal. While the morning and night temperatures were 8-9 degrees Celsius, the daytime temperature had reached 25 degrees Celsius. The main reason for this unusual warmth was a weak Western Disturbance, which became active in the Himalayan region but had a limited impact on the plains.
Typically, such disturbances bring clouds, fog, and rain, but this time there was less cloud cover, and the skies remained clear. This allowed the sun's rays to reach the ground directly, increasing the feeling of warmth during the day. An anti-cyclonic situation in the plains prevented cold winds from reaching the area, and the lack of moisture in the air prevented the formation of dense fog.
Rain improves AQI in Delhi-NCR.
Rainfall in Delhi and the NCR has led to a decrease in air pollution, or AQI. A drop in temperature has also been observed. According to the Meteorological Department, the minimum temperature in Delhi has increased by 4.5 to 7.4 degrees Celsius in the last 24 hours, showing a positive change of 4.2 to 7.1 degrees Celsius.
