Javed Akhtar rejected Border 2 and took a jibe at the makers; now producer Bhushan Kumar has given this reaction.

The lyrics for the superhit song "Sandese Aate Hain" from the film Border were written by veteran screenwriter and lyricist Javed Akhtar. He was even awarded a National Award for it. However, when he was asked to write a song for the Border sequel, Border 2, he refused the film.

In a conversation with India Today, Javed Akhtar took a dig at the makers, saying, "They asked me to write for the film, but I refused. I truly feel this is a kind of intellectual and creative bankruptcy. You have an old song that was a hit, and you want to add something to it and release it again? Make new songs, or admit that you can't create work of the same caliber."

What did the producer say about Javed's statement?

Now, after Javed Akhtar's statement, producer Bhushan Kumar has reacted. He explained why it was necessary to include the song "Sandese Aate Hain" in the sequel. At a promotional event for the film, the producer said, "I think this film cannot be made without two things, or rather three things. One - the Border title, second - Sunny Sir, and third - the song Sandese Aate Hain. So it was always in our minds that we had to include Sandese Aate Hain."

Manoj Muntashir wrote the lyrics.

Bhushan Kumar further added, "The lyrics of Sandese Aate Hain have been changed according to the situation. The story we are showing is not a recreation of the first Border, but different stories related to the 1971 war. We have shown the stories of other soldiers. The lyrics are also based on that. That's why we got the lyrics written by Manoj ji (Manoj Muntashir)."

Who sang the Border 2 song Ghar Kab Aaoge?

It should be noted that the recreated version of Sandese Aate Hain, "Ghar Kab Aaoge," has been sung by Sonu Nigam, Arijit Singh, Diljit Dosanjh, and Vishal Mishra. Directed by Anurag Singh, Border 2 is releasing in theaters tomorrow, January 23, 2026.
