New Delhi, March 17 (IANS) A 67-year-old woman has become one of the oldest cadaver donors at the AIIMS, authorities said on Tuesday.
Darshana Arora, a resident of Delhi, was taken to the city government-run Babu Jagjivan Ram Hospital but was declared dead on arrival.
On the advice of doctors, relatives of the deceased woman agreed to donate her body for medical research under the Dadhichi Deh Daan Samithi initiative of the All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS).
"Today, we received a whole body for anatomy research after the son of a patient, who died of old age, donated the body. The whole body will be used for medical research," T.S. Roy, head of the anatomy department at AIIMS, told IANS.
The hospital has received seven bodies since January for medical research.
"Around 5,000 people have registered for body donation. It is a great initiative," he said.
