In South Sudan, the soldiers of the Indian Army are engaged in work ranging from saving lives to building roads. Karishma Kathayat, an engineer in the Indian Army, is also among the women to be awarded the UN Medal.

 

Indian Army personnel are also providing medical facilities in South Sudan. In September 2022, the medical staff of the Indian Army saved the lives of 5 children by performing emergency surgery. Peacekeeper Major Amanpreet Kaur told that if he was not treated at the right time, he could have lost his life.

 

India has lost 175 soldiers in a peacekeeping mission

Honoring the Indian soldiers with the UN Medal, Force Commander Lt Gen Mohan Subramanian said that all the soldiers of the army have done an excellent job. Has given security to thousands of people and saved their lives. South Sudan will always remember this work.

 

According to the data of the UN Department of Peacekeeping, the UN has completed more than 70 peacekeeping missions so far. The Indian Army has taken an active part in these. India's highest number of 175 soldiers have been martyred while working in these peacekeeping missions. In all these missions, India and Pakistan are among the top 10 countries that send the most troops.

Indian soldiers were also stationed in the same country. The unit of the Indian Army was stationed in Goma where eight soldiers and an officer of the Pakistan Army were brought for treatment.
