41-year-old Sunita was admitted to the Rajiv Gandhi Government Hospital on May 22 due to shortness of breath. The police reached the accused Rati Devi after interrogating other people in the hospital. The mobile phone of the deceased has also been recovered from Rati Devi. Police were told by other staff members of the hospital that Rati Devi was the last time she was seen carrying Sunita in a wheelchair. Sunita was missing since May 23.
Further inquiry revealed that the accused Rati Devi is a widow, who lives with her 22-year-old son and a daughter. He also killed Sunita because she was in dire need of money. Rati Devi told the police that she saw Rs 500 note in Sunita's bag and decided to steal it. So she took Sunita in a wheelchair on the pretext of a scan. She took Sunita to the eighth floor in the emergency lift and then strangled her to death there.
