Why does a lunar eclipse occur?

A lunar eclipse occurs when the Earth comes between the Sun and the Moon, casting its shadow on the Moon. This causes the Moon to appear slightly red or coppery. It is also commonly referred to as a 'Blood Moon' (Blood Moon India Time).

Sutak period before the eclipse

However, this is a natural astronomical phenomenon and does not cause any direct harm. According to religious beliefs, the Sutak period begins before the eclipse. During this time, temples are closed, and people refrain from performing rituals or preparing food.

After the eclipse ends, bathing, donating, and praying are considered especially important. Special aarti and purification ceremonies are also organized at many locations.

What do astrology say?

Astrologer Sanjay Pathak explained that the eclipse can have different effects on different zodiac signs, so pregnant women and children are advised to exercise special caution. However, from a scientific perspective, this is a normal astronomical event.

According to the Meteorological Department, if the sky remains clear, people will be able to enjoy this celestial spectacle. The administration has also appealed to the public to ignore rumors and observe this natural phenomenon safely.
