Air India Flight Bomb Threat There was a stir after a bomb threat was made to an Air India plane going from Mumbai to New York. The plane was then diverted to Delhi airport. Officials said that all the passengers were safe and further investigation was going on.
Officials said that the plane is currently at Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi and all standard security protocols are being followed to ensure the safety of passengers and crew.
There were 135 people on board the plane.
Air India flight AI 657 had 135 passengers and crew members on board. All have been safely landed at Delhi airport. The plane has been kept in an isolation bay.
Action taken on the instructions of the security regulatory committee
An Air India spokesperson said that flight AI119 flying from Mumbai to JFK received a special security alert and was diverted to Delhi on the instructions of the government's security regulatory committee. All the passengers have disembarked from the plane and are at the Delhi airport terminal.
The flight had a technical glitch two days ago.
The incident comes just days after a technical glitch in an Air India Express flight from Tiruchirappalli to Sharjah on Friday, forcing the plane to circle several times in the sky to reduce fuel and weight before landing safely.
The airlines said that soon after takeoff, the plane developed a malfunction related to the hydraulic system and landing gear.
The pilots showed the presence of mind.
The quick presence of mind of the pilots prevented an unpleasant accident mid-air and saved the lives of about 141 passengers. Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin praised the pilots and the crew of the airship for making a safe landing.
An Air India Express spokesperson said, "After reporting the technical glitch, the aircraft circled several times in the designated area as a precaution to reduce fuel and weight, considering the length of the runway, before making a safe precautionary landing.
The company said that the cause of the glitch will be investigated. The safety of our passengers remains our priority.
