Gujarat Giants qualified for the playoffs by defeating Mumbai Indians by 11 runs. Interestingly, this is Gujarat's first victory against Mumbai in the history of the Women's Premier League. Previously, Mumbai had defeated Gujarat in eight consecutive matches. In the match played in Vadodara on Friday, Gujarat, after winning the toss and electing to bat first, scored 167 runs for the loss of four wickets in 20 overs, thanks to a 46-run innings by Ashleigh Gardner. In reply, Mumbai Indians could only manage 156 runs for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted overs. Harmanpreet Kaur played an unbeaten innings of 82 runs for them.

Gujarat's Innings

Gujarat Giants won the toss and elected to bat first, but their start was not ideal. At one point, the team lost both their set batters, Anushka Sharma (33) and Sophie Devine (25), within a difference of just two runs, which affected the run rate. Gujarat came under pressure due to the disciplined bowling of Amelia Kerr and Shabnim Ismail. At this crucial juncture, captain Ashleigh Gardner and Georgia Wareham took charge. An important partnership of 71 runs between the two stabilized the innings and also accelerated the scoring. Gardner played an aggressive innings of 46 runs off 28 balls, including seven fours and one six, while Wareham added a quick 44 runs off 26 balls. Gardner's attack in the 16th and 17th overs, in particular, changed the course of the match. In the final overs, Gujarat maintained a good run rate and the team managed to post a competitive score of 167 runs for the loss of 4 wickets in 20 overs.

Mumbai's Innings

Chasing a target of 168 runs, Mumbai Indians had a very poor start. Sophie Devine dismissed Hayley Matthews in the very first over and then sent Nat Sciver-Brunt back to the pavilion as well. These early setbacks put Mumbai under pressure. However, captain Harmanpreet Kaur held firm at one end and played a magnificent innings under pressure. She scored an unbeaten 82 runs off 48 balls, including eight fours and four sixes. Sajeevan Sajana contributed a useful 26 runs, briefly raising hopes, but Georgia Wareham bowled tightly in the middle overs, dismissing Amelia Kerr and Sanskriti Gupta, further pushing Mumbai onto the back foot. Mumbai needed 37 runs in the last two overs, and Harmanpreet was well set. She even hit two sixes against Ashleigh Gardner in the final over, but the target proved too big. Mumbai Indians could only manage 156 runs for the loss of 7 wickets and lost the match by 11 runs.
