Monsoon: Heavy rain alert issued in Delhi-Kerala, hailstorm warning in UP; 16 people died in Maharashtra

Monsoon has knocked in many states of the country. There was a dust storm in Delhi-NCR on Thursday evening. At the same time, an alert has also been issued for heavy rain in a few hours. The Meteorological Department has issued an alert of rain and strong storm in Delhi-NCR and other North Indian states.

Such weather will remain for the next three days. The Meteorological Department has also issued a yellow alert for Thursday and an orange alert for Friday. IMD scientist Akhil Srivastava said, "Thunderstorms and strong winds are likely over the northwestern region of the country - Punjab and Haryana.

 

Orange alert including hailstorm in Uttar Pradesh

 

Rain and strong winds are also likely over Jammu and Kashmir. Uttar Pradesh has an orange alert including a hailstorm. Thunderstorms, strong winds, and light rain are likely in Delhi today and light to moderate rain is expected tomorrow.

Heavy rains and strong winds uprooted trees in various parts of Kerala on Wednesday, leading to waterlogging in low-lying areas and flooding in riverside areas. People were evacuated to relief camps in several hilly areas like Wayanad. Many houses were damaged, the power supply was badly affected and crops were also damaged.

 

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a red alert for three districts - Idukki, Kannur and Kasaragod - for Friday and a red alert for the remaining 11 districts. Orange alert has been issued.

 

The water level in Kabani in Wayanad districts is continuously rising.

The Kerala State Disaster Management Authority said that due to heavy rains, the water level in various rivers of the state - Manimala and Achankovil in Pathanamthitta, Meenachil in Kottayam, Korapuzha in Kozhikode and Kabani in Wayanad districts - is continuously rising. People living on the banks of these rivers have been advised to remain alert. Winds are blowing at a speed of 40 to 60 km per hour.

 

Orange alert in six districts of Kerala

The Indian National Ocean Information Service Center has advised fishermen and others in coastal areas to remain alert as high waves of 1.2 to 3.7 meters are likely to hit the coasts of Kerala by 8.30 pm on Friday.

 

On Thursday also, the Meteorological Department issued a red alert and a red alert in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts. Orange alert was issued in the remaining six districts.

 

16 people died in Maharashtra in five days

 

According to a state government report, 16 people have died in Maharashtra due to rain-related incidents such as landslides, lightning, and falling of trees or structures in the last five days. Also, 41 cattle have lost their lives.

 

Due to the early arrival of monsoon this year, Maharashtra has been receiving heavy rains since May 24. Due to this, almost all areas of the state have been affected. Three people died in Pune district. Two deaths each occurred in Thane, Latur, and Bhandara. One death each was recorded in Raigad, Ahilyanagar, Nagpur, Wardha, Chandrapur, Mumbai Suburban, and Gondia districts, the report said.
