The government is now trying to put an end to the politics going on in the country regarding the new army chief of Pakistan. This is the reason why the country's Defense Minister Khwaja Asif has said that its process will be started within a month.
PTI chief and former PM Imran Khan have been doing politics for a long time on the issue of the new Army Chief of the country. They allege that the government wants to make an army chief of its choice so that it can cover up its corruption. Now Khwaja Asif has tried to put it on hold by answering many questions raised by Imran Khan on the issue of the Army Chief.
Defense Minister's statement
During the interaction with the reporters, Khawaja Asif said that according to the constitution, the new army chief of the country will be appointed. He said that it will be completed by the end of this month or by the beginning of November. Let us tell you that the current Army Chief General Qamar Javed Bajwa is walking on the extension.
His term will end on November 29. General Bajwa himself has denied the speculation that he will be given an extension again. General Bajwa, who is in America, has made it clear that his term will not be extended and someone else will take over in his place.
what does the constitution say?
Khwaja Asif has also made it clear that the appointment of the new Army Chief will be completely the decision of the PM, which will be taken only under the rules. Significantly, according to Article 243(3) of the Constitution of Pakistan, the President of the country puts his final seal on the name of the new Army Chief on the recommendation of the PM.
Under this selection process, five names are considered. These names are sent by the General Headquarters or the Ministry of Defence. But according to the constitution, the army chief can be appointed other than these names. This is at the discretion of the PM.
These names are discussed
It is being said in Pakistan media that PM Shahbaz Sharif will consult his elder brother and former PM Nawaz Sharif before deciding on the new army chief. Apart from this, he can also discuss this with other leaders of his alliance.
It is also being said that General Bajwa can meet Nawaz in London and Maryam Nawaz in Islamabad on his return from America. The names that are being discussed in the Pakistani media about the new Army Chief include Chief of General Staff Lt Gen Azhar Abbas, and DG ISI Nadeem Anjum. Khwaja Asif has accused Imran Khan of trying to malign the image of the country by involving the army in the war of politics.
