
Union Health Minister Mansukh Mandaviya said on Friday that Lymphatic Filariasis (Elephant Foot) disease has not been ignored in India. It is the priority of the government to end it in a time-bound manner. Inaugurating the National Seminar on India's Roadmap for Elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis, Mandaviya reiterated the commitment of the Government of India towards the goal of eliminating the disease from the country by the end of 2027.
The Health Minister said that as part of the commitment to eliminate the disease by the end of 2027, the Health Ministry has come out with a fresh five-pronged strategy, under which Multi-Drug Administration (MDA) will be organized twice a year on 10 February and 10 February. August to coincide with National Deworming Day.
Mandaviya said that anti-filaria drugs are provided free of cost by the Center to 133 districts in 20 states and union territories. Along with this, he called for the right combination of government action and social reform.
He said that the Advanced Strategies for Elimination of Lymphatic Filariasis launched in the National Symposium would serve as a precursor to the launch of the All India MDA Campaign in mission mode on February 10 this year. Mandaviya said that the health ministry will observe the day with necessary extensive visibility campaigns at the national, state, district, sub-district, and block levels to ensure that lymphatic anti-filariasis drugs reach all.
