The two policemen killed in an attack by unidentified gunmen on December 3 in the Khanewal district of Pakistan's Punjab province were officers of the country's Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). On the day of the attack, police claimed that the two dead officers were attached to the Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of the provincial police. The FIR registered in the case revealed that both the ISI officers were working to bust a terror network in South Punjab. The banned Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and Lashkar-e-Khorasan, a terror group linked to Al Qaeda, have claimed responsibility for the attack.
Raids are being conducted to arrest the accused
According to the FIR, ISI Multan Zone Director Naveed Sadiq and Inspector Nasir Abbas had met an 'informer' (suspected killer) at a roadside restaurant on the national highway near Pirowal in Khanewal district on Tuesday. After having tea, they all went to the parking lot, when informer Umar Khan suddenly pulled out a gun and shot both the officers. The CTD has registered a case against the suspect and his accomplices under the charges of murder and terrorism. Raids are being conducted to arrest the accused.
Pakistan will not hold talks with any terrorist group
Pakistan's Interior Minister Rana Sanaullah said on Thursday that talks will not be held with any terrorist or terrorist group. A day earlier, TTP had threatened to target top leaders of the two major parties in the ruling coalition. In its statement, TTP mentioned the names of PPP Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Prime Minister Shahbaz Sharif. Earlier on January 4, the minister had said that if the TTP lays down arms and surrenders to the law and the Constitution, it can be called for a settlement.
Pak will ask the Taliban to stop helping TTP
Pakistan will demand from the interim government of Afghanistan not to allow TTP and its affiliated groups to use the land of Afghanistan. Pakistan will keep only one option in front of the Taliban of Afghanistan, either you come with us or stay with TTP.
