Apple's business, which is famous for the iPhone, has gained a lot in the Indian market. The company posted record sales in the country in the July-September quarter due to a new strategy for India and stagnant demand for new-age smart devices.
Sales figures in India were so good that Apple CEO Tim Cook could not stop himself from mentioning this when discussing the company's results. He said, "We recorded record sales in the US, Europe and the rest of the Asia Pacific region in the September quarter. There were also record sales in India in the September quarter. The demand for Apple products has also increased by opening online stores in India. However, no new iPhone in the September quarter has affected its business in China, the largest smartphone market.
Cook did not reveal sales figures in India, but according to research firm Canelis, nearly eight lakh iPhones were sold in India in the previous quarter. The company has regained its lost ground by registering two-digit growth in India.
R Doshi, director of research at Canalis, said, "Apple is beginning to benefit from focusing on India. The company has opened an online store in India and has tried many new measures and strategies to increase market penetration. According to Counterpoint Research, the new iPhone has hit the top of the Apple premium category (priced at over Rs 30,000) in the September quarter without landing in the market. Apple also benefited from the lockdown and the demand for notebooks increased significantly during this time. MacBook sales have increased manifold since May to meet the needs of work and education from home. A person close to the company said that there is so much demand for the MacBook Air and Pro models which came into the market in July that Apple is not able to supply it.
Industry watchers say that the new strategy for India has helped Apple make a comeback. Because of this, the company changed its strategy and introduced new iPhone models XR and iPhone 11 at a lower price through local assembly. Along with this, Apple also benefited by opening online stores in September and bringing a variety of schemes for customers.
