Bengaluru violence: Three killed in police firing, 110 arrested

In Bengaluru, the number of people who died in a controversy caused by a social media post and the violence that has arisen from it has now risen to three.

 

Police Commissioner Kamal Pant told BBC Hindi, "The third person injured in the police firing has died last night. The situation here is almost under control since 12:30 pm".

 

The furious mob attacked two police stations and the house of a Congress MLA, after which the police had to shoot. The crowd reached the police station, performing against an objectionable post on social media.

 

According to Bengaluru Police Commissioner Kamal Pant, curfew has been imposed in Dege Halli and KG Halli areas and Section 144 has been imposed in the entire city.

 

The news agency ANI quoted Bangalore's Joint Police Commissioner (Crime) Sandeep Patil as saying that 110 people have been arrested so far in this case.

 

A relative of Pulikeshinagar Congress MLA Akhand Srinivas Murthy had allegedly posted an objectionable post on social media against which a large number of people reached the police station on Tuesday evening and demanded action against the poster.

 

Another mob reached the house of Congress MLA.

 

According to the police, there was a demand for a fierce mob to register an FIR and immediately arrest the relative of the MLA as it has hurt their religious sentiments.

 

On seeing the crowd, the crowd vanished and some of the vehicles parked outside the police station were set on fire, while the crowd that went to the MLA's house also set fire to some of the vehicles standing there.

 

According to the police commissioner, the person posting on social media has been taken into custody.

 

The name of the accused is Naveen who is said to be the nephew of the MLA.

 

The police commissioner said, "The policemen were attacked with big stones. Suddenly there was lightning and it took us some time to deal with the crowd. As the police station was being attacked from all four sides, the police had nothing but firing There was no other way. "

 

Karnataka Home Minister Basavaraj Bommai has also confirmed the death of two people in police firing.

 

Meanwhile, Congress MLA Srinivas Murthy released a video appealing to Muslims to keep peace and assured them that they are with them and action will be taken in this matter.

 

MLA Murthy says in the video, "Whatever the case, we are all brothers. We will ensure that they get the right punishment. I am with you. I am with you. I request that you keep the peace. "

 

The Karnataka Home Minister also issued a video message saying, "Arson and violence are against the law. Whatever the case is, it has to be resolved within the purview of the law. I have ordered the police to restore peace. No matter how big a person, we will ensure that strict action is taken. Whoever is responsible for this will be punished severely. I assure you that no one will be spared. "

 

Amir-e-Shariat Hazrat Maulana Sagir Ahmed of Karnataka has also appealed to Muslims to maintain peace as the police have promised that anyone who has done this objectionable act will be punished. He told the people not to take the law in their hands, the government will take action.
