These days there is a controversy going on in India regarding changing the name of the country. Political parties are divided into two parts in this dispute, for and against. The controversy further heated up when President Draupadi Murmu was addressed as 'President of India' instead of 'President of India' in the G-20 dinner invitation. Amidst this controversy, a top UN official has said that the UN considers requests from countries to change their names only when requests are sent to them to change their names.

Farhan Haq, deputy spokesman for UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres, on Wednesday also cited the example of Turkey changing its name to Turkey last year.

Farhan Haq, in response to a question on all the reports of changing the name of the country, said that the name of 'India' can be changed to 'Bharat'. Referring to Turkiye's case, he said that at that time we had responded to a formal request given to us by the government. If we receive such requests further, we will consider them.

PM Modi said 'Bharat' is the ancient name of the country

A controversy over changing the country's name in India erupted on Tuesday when invitations sent by President Murmu to the G-20 dinner described his title as 'President of India' instead of the traditional 'President of India'. it was done. Since then, the opposition has accused the PM Narendra Modi government of planning to change the name of the country.

At the same time, Prime Minister Modi on Wednesday asked his cabinet colleagues to avoid political controversy on the India issue. The PM believes that this has been the ancient name of the country.
