Congress, which is running an aggressive campaign against Aam Aadmi Party in the Delhi Assembly elections, has now started focusing on regaining its lost vote bank as the polling date is approaching.
As part of this strategy to regain its traditional social base of Dalits and minorities, the party has intensified its political campaign on the fact that Aam Aadmi Party and BJP have the same ideology. Not only the Delhi state leaders of the party but also the national leaders of Congress who have come out for campaigning are launching sharp attacks on the deep ideological connection between AAP and BJP.
Attack on Kejriwal's silence on national issues
From incidents of oppression and violence against Dalits and minorities to the silence of AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal on national issues, questions are being raised. At the same time, Congress is also targeting AAP and Kejriwal's race to compete with BJP in the politics of Hindutva.
On Thursday, the Congress leaders' attacks on the ideological affiliation of AAP and BJP were given momentum by the party's top leader Rahul Gandhi on Delhi's development model by putting Prime Minister Narendra Modi and AAP convenor Arvind Kejriwal in the same political mould.
Rahul Gandhi's sharp attack on AAP government
After his election rallies were postponed due to fever, Rahul Gandhi posted a video related to the plight of Delhi in a Facebook post and especially attacked the AAP government. Rahul said-
"Poor construction, dirt, inflation, unemployment, pollution, and corruption - the truth of Delhi is in front of the public. Delhi now demands the same true development model of Sheila Dikshit, not the false propaganda and PR model of Modi and Kejriwal."
Attempt to regain its vote bank.
Even before the announcement of the elections, the state Congress had started an aggressive campaign against AAP as a strategy to regain its vote bank. It gained momentum after Rahul Gandhi targeted Kejriwal in his first election rally in Seelampur.
Congress's comeback difficult without Dalit vote bank
This election strategy of the party makes it clear that it believes that unless the minority and Dalit vote bank joins it again, the path of Congress's political comeback in Delhi is difficult. After 10 years of AAP's rule, Congress sees an opportunity to regain it in this election.
Congress is cornering Kejriwal on these issues.
That is why the party leaders are not shying away from attacking the ideological connection between Kejriwal and BJP. Many senior leaders engaged in the party's campaign, including Congress media department's national head Pawan Khera and social media department head Supriya Srinet, are attacking almost daily by raising the issue of AAP and Kejriwal's silence on matters ranging from riots in Delhi to CAA-NRC movement, Jamia violence.
