The Bombay High Court has asked why the present and previous governments of Maharashtra did not get time to form a committee to implement fire safety rules. While around 400 government proposals have been issued during this period. The High Court had given instructions to the government in this regard on April 11. The public prosecutor told the High Court that for the new rules, the government is incorporating the draft security rules in 2009. For this, a special committee has to be formed, which takes three-four months.
Justice Dipankar Dutta and Justice MS Karnik said that this is a very long period. It is coming in the newspapers that the government has recently issued 400 gr. The government needs so much time to form a simple committee, but it has time to issue the GR. The High Court directed that after the order given in April, it should inform about the steps taken by the government by the next date.
It is noteworthy that the High Court is hearing this on a Public Interest Litigation filed by a lawyer, in which it has been requested to implement fire safety rules in buildings. These rules were made after the terrorist attack on Mumbai in 2009.
