Union Home Minister Amit Shah held a high-level meeting on Thursday regarding the situation in Joshimath. During this Union Ministers Nitin Gadkari, RK Singh, Bhupendra Yadav, and Gajendra Singh Shekhawat were present. The situation in Joshimath was discussed in detail in the meeting.
Earlier, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami had taken stock of landslide affected Joshimath town on Wednesday. He had announced interim assistance for the affected. On the other hand, demanding compensation amount on the lines of the Badrinath Master Plan, the local people obstructed the process of demolition of buildings declared unsafe.
Talking to the media in Joshimath, Dhami had clearly said that out of the unsafe buildings identified in Joshimath, only two hotels will be demolished now, and that too with everyone's consent. He said that a committee has been constituted for relief and rehabilitation, in which further action will be taken by including people from all major sections.
In the Joshimath town area, 723 buildings have been identified as landslide-affected, out of which 145 families have been shifted to temporary relief camps till Wednesday. Two hotels in Joshimath - the seven-storey 'Malari Inn' and the five-storey 'Mount View' - are leaning dangerously towards each other due to cracks and nearly a dozen houses below them are at risk.
