Chaos in Moharram procession in Ujjain, scuffle with police to enter restricted route; Crowd dispersed by lathicharge

When the police stopped the people forcibly taking out a Moharram procession on a prohibited route in Ujjain, a ruckus broke out. The people involved in the procession broke the barricades. There was a scuffle with the police personnel. Five policemen were injured in this.

 

The police lathicharged and dispersed the crowd. An FIR has been registered against 15 people in this case. Superintendent of Police Pradeep Sharma said that during the Moharram procession, some people were forcibly entering the prohibited route, Abdalpura, with horses.

 

The crowd scuffled with the police.

 

They were led by Irfan alias Lalla. When the police tried to stop them near Khajurwali Masjid Chauraha, the crowd got into a scuffle. When the barricades were broken, the police used mild force and dispersed the crowd. The video of the disturbance is being circulated on the internet media. The police is trying to identify the miscreants from the circulated video and CCTV footage.

 

In Saharanpur, Uttar Pradesh, about 200 people, including mourners of the Shia community, fell victim to food poisoning after consuming drinks and food items distributed during the Moharram procession on Saturday night. One person died. According to DM Manish Bansal, samples of the drinks and food items distributed have been taken. All were admitted to hospitals after vomiting and diarrhea. ACMO Kunal Jain said that the condition of the people is improving.
